The theme this year is telling: \u201cDriven to End Malaria: Now We Can. Now We Must.\u201d Malaria affects millions of people every year, mainly in Africa and parts of Asia and Latin America. Protection consists of a combination of measures:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1. Malaria prophylaxis (preventive medication)<\/strong><br>These are tablets that you take before, during and after your trip. Which remedy is most suitable depends on your destination, duration of travel and personal health.<br><br>Common prophylaxis agents are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Atovaquone\/proguanil (Malarone) <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Doxycycline <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mefloquine (Lariam)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. Protective clothing and mosquito repellent<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Wear long sleeves and trousers at dusk and at night <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use DEET-containing insect repellent (at least 30%) <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sleep under a mosquito net, preferably impregnated with permethrin<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3.
