What vaccinations do you need for India?

The highly recommended inoculations for India are:

  • DTP (Diphtheria, Tetanus and Polio): Due to varying hygiene conditions, this vaccination is recommended.
  • Hepatitis A: This protects you from contaminated food and water, which can be especially risky in India.
  • Typhoid fever: If you are staying in India for more than two weeks or have a lot of contact with locals, this vaccination is recommended.

Have you been in a country within 7 days prior to your arrival in India where yellow fever occur? Or have you made a transfer in such a country? Then a yellow fever vaccination is mandatory. This should at least 10 days before arrival have been administered. In India itself, yellow fever does not occur.

Optional vaccinations for India

There are a number of other recommended vaccinations for India. Depending on your trip it is smart to get these as well. The duration of your trip will influence this, for instance, as will the region you are going to and the activities you are going to undertake there. Optional vaccinations for India are:

  • Hepatitis B: Especially for longer stays or intensive contact with locals.
  • Rabies (rabies): Recommended when staying in remote areas or having much contact with animals.
  • Japanese Encephalitis: If you plan to stay in the countryside for an extended period, this vaccination may be useful.

Get your vaccinations for India at Vaccination Point

Making an appointment is easy following the step-by-step plan below:

  1. Select one of our Vaccination point locations, which is convenient for you. Then choose a date and time for your appointment. This is also possible in the evening and at weekends. 
  2. Fill in your additional details right away. This includes your itinerary, health declaration and vaccination booklet (if you have one). You can also fill this in at a later time using the link in your confirmation e-mail. Make sure these details are completed no later than 36 hours in advance are known to us. 
  3. Our medical team will review your details and compile a personalised advice. As soon as this is complete, you will receive an e-mail with your (provisional) vaccination advice. We are happy to receive your approval on this.
  4. Time for the appointment: you visit us on location for your vaccination for the Philippines. Don't forget to bring a valid ID and your yellow vaccination booklet! Are you unable to come unexpectedly? Please cancel your appointment at least 24 hours in advance to avoid charges.

Frequently asked questions

Is there malaria in India?

In India, malaria for. This is a disease transmitted through mosquitoes. Tourists still die of malaria every year, so it is good to protect yourself against it. There is just no vaccination against malaria. Depending on your trip, you can protect yourself by taking malaria medication. You can also get this from Vaccination Point. Read us malaria advisory for India and make an appointment for personal advice. 

In addition, you can at least wear covering clothes, use mosquito repellent with DEET and sleep under a mosquito net to prevent mosquito bites. Do you get a fever during your trip? If so, contact a doctor as soon as possible (within 24 hours).

What do vaccinations for India cost?

You pay for the vaccinations and for the consultation. You will find all rates in our tariff list. Sometimes (part of) your vaccination is reimbursed by your health insurer. Check your fees or ask during your appointment, we will be happy to advise you on this too. 

I have booked a last-minute, how soon can I get in?

We have no queue and more than 70 locations, so you can usually also get vaccinated just before departure. In that case, our advice is often to take the basic vaccinations: DTP, Hepatitis A and Typhoid fever. 

Do I need a visa for India?

All tourists and business travellers with a Dutch or other European nationality (including children) need a visa for India. This can be easily applied for online; a visit to the embassy is not necessary. After approval, you will receive the visa by e-mail, which you print out and take with you on your trip.
