Where are the outbreaks active?

The outbreaks are currently active in the following countries and territories:

What does the LCR recommend?

Travellers aged 12 and over to the above areas are advised to get a chikungunya vaccination, regardless of the duration of travel. So even a short stay is sufficient reason to get vaccinated. Besides vaccination, mosquito repellent measures remain essential, such as using DEET and wearing covered clothing.

Good news: outbreak Cuba over

The outbreak in Cuba has ended. Low transmission has returned, which means Cuba is no longer in the outbreak category. Vaccination is no longer routinely recommended for Cuba.

Are you not travelling for a while?

Chikungunya outbreaks last several weeks to months on average. Book far in advance? Then check again just before departure to see if the outbreak is still active in your destination. At Vaccinatiepunt, we keep track of current LCR recommendations for you and always give you up-to-date travel advice.
