Dengue on Curaçao
In Curaçao, dengue is active all year round, with increased risks during the rainy season from October to January. It is essential to always take precautions, especially during this period.

Precautions for Travellers
Before travelling to Curaçao, take the following measures to prevent dengue:

  • Mosquito repellents: Use agents containing DEET, picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus.
  • Clothing: Wear long sleeves, long trousers and socks, especially in the morning and evening.
  • Accommodation: Choose stays with good mosquito netting, air conditioning or mosquito nets.
  • Surroundings: Avoid standing water and make sure your accommodation regularly fights mosquitoes.

Vaccinations and Medical Preparation
For your trip to areas with dengue, such as Curaçao, visit Vaccination point well in advance. A vaccine against dengue is available that consists of two doses, with a minimum interval of three months. So start vaccination at least three months before departure. Symptoms and treatment
If you experience dengue symptoms during or after your trip, seek medical attention immediately. Treat symptoms with plenty of rest, adequate fluid intake and paracetamol (avoid aspirin and ibuprofen due to increased bleeding risk).
