Recently, several African countries have been reporting an increase in dengue infections.

There appears to be a sharp increase in dengue infections in several African countries, as urgent reports of a dengue outbreak in Burkina Faso. In Ethiopia, Mali and Sudan, many infections are also currently being reported. The LCR has therefore updated its protocols recommending vaccination when: 

Recommend vaccination

Persons ≥4 years with a completed dengue infection more than one year ago:

  • regardless of trip duration

and

  • who can receive two doses before departure (month 0 and month 3).

Consider vaccination

Individuals ≥ 4 years without previous dengue infection:

  • for a minimum stay of 4 weeks or frequent shorter stays

and

  • who can receive two doses before departure (month 0 and month 3).
