Chikungunya outbreak in Brazil, Cuba, Sri Lanka and Suriname
Travellers to certain regions in Brazil (Mato Grosso state), Cuba, Sri Lanka (Northern and Eastern provinces) and Suriname are currently at increased risk of chikungunya, a viral disease transmitted by mosquitoes. The disease often causes sudden fever, severe joint pain, muscle aches and sometimes skin rashes. In some people, joint pain can last for weeks to months.
Travellers to these areas are advised to get vaccinated against chikungunya. The vaccination consists of one dose and provides protection for at least two years. For optimal effectiveness, it is important that the vaccination is administered at least 14 days before departure. But note that the chikungunya vaccine is only available for children from 12 years of age up to an age of 64 years.
Team Vaccination Point will advise whether the vaccination is relevant to your trip. You can then visit one of our locations near you. So you can enjoy your holiday well-prepared and worry-free. Want to know more about this disease? Read more about chikungunya here!
